GitHub Copilot code review can now submit approvals that count toward a repository's required-approvals rule
Shipped 2026-09-01 in public preview for Copilot Pro, Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise, Copilot code review can submit a pull request approval that satisfies the repo's required-approvals rule. It is off by default and configurable at enterprise, organization and repository level including specific file paths, and the approval is dismissed on new commits exactly like a human reviewer's. This is the first time a first-party AI reviewer can discharge a branch-protection gate rather than only comment.
