CROSS-CATEGORY: "Skills" Became the Shared Saved-Workflow Primitive Across Notion, OpenAI and Figma
Notion shipped Notion Skills on August 31, reusable instructions stored as ordinary Notion pages the user owns and edits, created by asking the agent to save a workflow. On September 1 the Codex desktop teardown exposed a skills plugin folder carrying instructions for driving its bundled binaries, and Figma's Config 2026 release already let users write a prompt to create a repeatable skill for its canvas assistant. Three unrelated vendors converged on the same shape, an editable text artifact as the unit of automation, which is a direct replacement for the drag-and-drop workflow builder as a product surface.
