Microsoft GigaTIME Open-Sourced on Hugging Face: Multimodal AI Converts Routine Pathology Slides Into Spatial Proteomics at Population Scale
Microsoft Research (announced March 15 by Satya Nadella) released GigaTIME, a multimodal model trained on 40 million cells with paired H&E and mIF images across 21 protein channels, capable of converting standard pathology slides into virtual spatial proteomics maps without expensive lab imaging. Applied to 14,256 cancer patients across 51 hospitals, it generated ~300,000 virtual mIF images spanning 24 cancer types and uncovered 1,234 statistically significant protein–clinical associations. GigaTIME is open-sourced on Azure AI Foundry Labs and Hugging Face, with immediate relevance for any team building on medical imaging pipelines.
