Global venture funding hit $42B in August, up 122% year over year but down 25% from July
Crunchbase reported on September 3 that investors put $42 billion into just over 1,500 startups in August, against $56 billion in July. Seven rounds exceeded $1 billion, tying for the year's second-highest monthly count behind July's 13, led by Databricks at $5 billion on a $190 billion valuation, with the rest going to Hadrian, River AI, Yuanxin Satellite, Valar Atomics, Poolside and Base Power. Five of the seven billion-dollar recipients had already raised within the prior 12 months, which is the concentration signal: capital is compounding into the same names rather than widening.
