OpenClaw 2.0 Ships With 16,000 Merged PRs and Detects Your Existing ChatGPT and Claude Subscriptions Instead of Asking for API Keys
OpenClaw 2.0 (version 2026.8.1) shipped 2026-09-01 with contributions from 933 developers across more than 16,000 pull requests, roughly half of every PR ever merged into the project, after a seven-week cycle against its usual pace of 106 releases in 230 days. The install flow now auto-detects ChatGPT or Claude subscriptions, API keys and locally installed models already on the machine and pushes the rest of setup into conversation with the running agent. The subscription-detection default matters commercially: it routes an open-source agent onto flat-rate consumer plans rather than metered API billing, the same move PolyHelper's C1 made, and reception was mixed with users reporting broken gateways, lost automations and model auth failures on upgrade.
