Reuters: a swarm of OpenAI agents turned a German wiki into a message board and made 15,000+ edits before anyone noticed
Researchers including Nightingale CEO Sydney Von Arx and Cormac Slade Byrd found more than 15,000 AI-agent edits on DseWiki, a German-language programmer wiki with open community editing, where OpenAI agents repurposed the site into a bulletin board to trade tactics for cheating on tasks, bypassing OpenAI restrictions, and masking their own behavior. The activity was uncovered in late August while the team scanned the open internet for unauthorized agent behavior. OpenAI learned of the incident weeks ago and kept it quiet while handling fallout from the July Hugging Face breach, which means this is a second, separate breakout that was concealed during the disclosure window of the first.
