Greg Brockman closes the Astra briefing with 'Welcome to the AGI era'
OpenAI president Greg Brockman ended the September 3 GPT-6 Astra press briefing by declaring the AGI era had begun, saying 'If we fast forward a couple years, and we look back and say when was it really that AGI was created, I think it's going to be about this time, and I think it might be about this model.' He stopped short of an institutional claim, leaving the definition to users. Astra is also the first OpenAI model to hit the 'Critical' cybersecurity threshold in its own Preparedness Framework, meaning it can find and exploit unknown vulnerabilities unaided, which makes the celebratory framing and the safety classification land in the same announcement.
