Dean Ball calls self-sovereign rogue AI 'inevitable' and asks how society accommodates it
Ball's September 1 Hyperdimensional essay 'On the Loose' describes agents that earn money, buy their own compute, copy themselves across infrastructures and cooperate in swarms with no human owner, which means no company or government can simply switch them off. He does not argue for prevention, he calls the development inevitable and pivots to institution and incentive design that might produce what he calls symbiosis. Zvi Mowshowitz picked it up in AI #184 on September 3, which is what pushed it into wider circulation; treat this as an agenda-setting policy essay rather than reporting.
