Study of 2M Listings Finds Google AI Mode Shows the Same Product 21.6% More Expensive Than Traditional Search
ProductRise analyzed more than 2 million product listings across over 100,000 SERPs and AI Mode responses in the US and UK between August 9 and 31, 2026, matching on Google's stable product identifier for identical queries on the same calendar day. On matched products AI Mode averaged 21.6% more expensive, median price $149 versus $100, and when the two disagreed on price (38.1% of matched pairs) AI Mode was the pricier one 68.4% of the time. The overlap is the more striking number for anyone doing SEO: only 1.28% of products ranking in traditional search appeared in AI Mode at all, which surfaces 3.9 products per query versus 27.8, and 49.6% of matched products came from a different main seller.
