Brockman says Astra was OpenAI's first training run on more than 100,000 GPUs
In a Stratechery interview published September 4, OpenAI president Greg Brockman gave the first specific compute figure for Astra, calling it 'the first run that we've trained on more than 100,000 GPUs' and 'our most aligned model yet.' He framed computer use as the real break from the 'connector era' because the model can drive software that has no API. Pressed on why security hardening lagged before the Hugging Face incident, he conceded the field's instinct is to 'restrict access massively' rather than defend proactively.
