Google's Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber Is Gated Behind an Application-Only Program, Not Sold
Google published Gemini 3.8 Flash and a restricted variant, 3.8 Flash Cyber, on 2026-09-02. Flash is priced at $0.75/$3.75 per million input/output tokens through 2026-12-31, doubling to $1.50/$7.50 on 2027-01-01. Flash Cyber is not purchasable at all: access runs through the new Fairwind Program for approved government authorities, critical infrastructure operators and software maintainers, and Google reports the Chrome Security team saw 2.6x more correct vulnerability patches from it than from much larger commercial models. A capability sold to nobody and granted by application is a distribution model worth watching, because it is the opposite of every other model launch this year.
