SVB's Brand Is Being Retired in October, Three Years After the Run
Jason Lemkin reports receiving the notice from First Citizens' Frank Holding Jr., Marc Cadieux and Jesse Hurley that a united brand strategy begins rolling out in early October 2026: SVB Technology and Healthcare Banking becomes First Citizens Innovation Banking, SVB Global Fund Banking becomes First Citizens Fund Banking, and SVB Go becomes Go by First Citizens Bank. SVB was founded 1983-10-17, failed 2023-03-10 at a $16.3B cost to the FDIC Deposit Insurance Fund, and First Citizens now runs $236B in assets. Lemkin's operational point is the durable one: every venture-backed company now maintains at least two banking relationships as standing overhead, a permanent tax the failure created.
