Anthropic Replaced Its Retention Policy With Safeguards That Run Inside the Customer's Own Bucket
Anthropic announced Enterprise Frontier Safeguards on September 1, 2026, built with over 100 customers across financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, telecom, law, retail and the public sector. Activity data used for misuse monitoring lands in the customer's own S3, Azure Blob or Google Cloud Storage under their encryption keys and access policies, with automated scanning and no Anthropic human review. Anthropic says it will not charge for EFS and will roll it out in phases starting later this fall, but retains the ability to read the customer-held data, which is the caveat regulated buyers will negotiate over.
