Danijar Hafner, the Dreamer author, has a stealth world-model startup in SoMa with Chinese humanoid robots on the floor
MIT Technology Review profiles Danijar Hafner, 31, formerly of Google DeepMind and Google Brain and the author of PlaNet, Dreamer 2 (first human-level Atari 2600 via world models), Dreamer 3 (Minecraft diamond unaided), Dreamer 4 (diamond mining learned from recorded gameplay with no game interaction) and DayDreamer for physical robots. He founded the company in autumn 2025; it is still stealth with no name on the door, imported humanoid robots inside, and no disclosed funding or product. The bet is model-based RL, agents that train inside a learned world model and plan by imagining outcomes, which is a different line than the current tool-calling LLM agent stack.
