LibreOffice 26.8 passed 1 million installer downloads in a week after publishing six conditions AI features must meet
The Document Foundation says 26.8, released 26 August, cleared a million installer downloads in its first week excluding Linux repository updates, its most-downloaded update. The framing driving the numbers is the explicit absence of generative AI, backed by six stated principles any AI feature must satisfy first: user-controlled execution, no unauthorized content leaving the machine, no telemetry, no single-vendor dependency, no format compromises, and entirely optional. The foundation says it does not reject AI outright and points users to community plugins. The post hit 690 points on Hacker News.
