China's Domestic AI Chipmakers Raised Prices 20-50% Because of the HBM Shortage
Reuters reported September 10 that Huawei has quoted its Ascend 950DT accelerator above 250,000 yuan ($37,255), up 20-50% from two months ago, while Cambricon lifted its planned 690 chip 20-30% and MetaX and Iluvatar CoreX followed. Existing parts moved too: the Ascend 950PR went from about 60,000 yuan in January to over 80,000, and the older 910C from roughly 90,000 to over 110,000. High-bandwidth memory scarcity is making the domestic accelerators meant to replace Nvidia more expensive, and Iluvatar CoreX doubled its ByteDance allocation to 100,000 GPUs by diverting parts it had reserved for itself.
