At its September 9 event Apple unveiled its first foldable, the iPhone Duo, with a 5.4-inch outer and 7.6-inch inner display, Touch ID and an A20 Pro built on 2nm with a 32-core Neural Engine claiming 2x compute and roughly 40% more sustained performance. Apple said it used AI and 3D printing in the hinge manufacturing process, one of the more concrete claims yet of generative design reaching a shipped consumer mechanism. CEO John Ternus used the event to argue the best AI device is still the iPhone, leaning on on-device model privacy.
