IBM released Granite Time Series PatchTST-FM-r2 with a commercial-friendly license
IBM Research published PatchTST-FM-r2 on the Hugging Face Blog on 2026-09-09, a time-series foundation model it describes as state of the art, shipped under a license permitting commercial use. Time-series forecasting is one of the few areas where a small specialized foundation model still beats prompting a general LLM, and permissive licensing is the differentiator against the closed forecasting APIs. Single-source vendor claim on the SOTA framing; the license and availability are verifiable on the model card.
