Google Signs Europe's First Big-Tech Nuclear Offtake, Taking Up to Half of Finland's Loviisa Plant Through 2049 Alongside a €13B AI Build-Out
Google agreed to buy up to 50% of Fortum's Loviisa nuclear plant output. Supply starts at reduced capacity in 2028 and runs at 50% from 2030 to 2049, which unlocks about €1 billion of investment to keep the plant running to its 2050 license end. The deal is part of a €13 billion Finland data-center plan for 2027 to 2028 covering Hamina, Muhos, Vaala and Kajaani. It is Google's first nuclear deal outside the U.S., and it shows hyperscalers now keep existing reactors running to secure AI power.
