Rune Open-Sources a Keyboard-Driven Go IDE Under GPLv3 and Hits 303 Stars in Two Days
Unstable Build, a self-funded company, put Rune on GitHub under GPL-3.0 on September 10; the repo reached 303 stars by September 12 and the announcement took 199 points on Hacker News. It is a native IDE written mostly in Go with a GPU renderer linked through cgo, bundling code, terminals, CLI tools, language intelligence and AI agents into one multi-workspace environment. It arrived alongside Toast (197 stars, Go, "batteries-included in-terminal IDE", 78 points) and Txt, meaning three separate keyboard-first editor projects competed for the same front page in 24 hours while the paid AI-IDE tier is where incumbents put their pricing.
