Superhuman Buys Fathom After Concluding It Could Not Build a Notetaker, Folding 400K MAUs Into a 40M-User Suite
Superhuman (formerly Grammarly) acquired YC-backed Fathom on Sept 14 for undisclosed terms. Fathom had over 400,000 monthly active users, more than a million people who had recorded meetings, $30M+ raised and a $94M valuation in 2024. CEO Shishir Mehrotra said Superhuman tested an internal notetaker and found the category deeper than expected, so it bought a finished product instead. The strategic point is not the notetaker, it is the meeting transcript as the trigger substrate for agents that already own email, calendar, docs and a database, which is pressure Granola, Read AI, Otter and Fireflies cannot answer with a better notetaker.
