Egnyte Sells a 'Context Layer' Over MCP to 23,000 Customers, Positioning Stored Files as the Thing Agents Have to Buy
Egnyte launched its Context Layer on September 15, mapping relationships across content, people, projects and business systems so external AI agents get a purpose-built context foundation instead of rediscovering the business on every call; it is exposed over MCP and ships with an AI Connector into Autodesk Forma Data Management with webhooks and folder mapping. Egnyte claims the layer cuts redundant processing and cost, and is targeting financial services, life sciences, media and AEC first. Pricing is undisclosed, which is the tell — this is an enterprise content vendor repositioning a 23,000-customer file estate as the moat agents cannot route around.
