hister took 637 HN points as a self-hosted search engine over the pages you visited and the files you own, and it speaks MCP
asciimoo/hister (Go, AGPL-3.0) indexes full page contents captured by Firefox and Chrome extensions plus local directories and crawled sites, serving results over web, terminal, CLI and an MCP endpoint so a coding agent can query your own browsing history. It gained 842 stars today to reach 4,660 on a repo created 2026-01-04, with v0.19.0 cut 2026-09-03. Semantic search is optional and points at an embeddings endpoint you configure yourself, so the default install stays entirely local.
