Anthropic collapses Cowork and chat into a single Claude, rolling out to Pro and Max first
Announced 16 September, Claude Cowork and the chat interface are merging into one Claude, rolling out to Pro and Max plans across web, desktop and mobile over the coming weeks. The framing is a single general agent that handles both a quick question and a long-running handoff that continues after you close the laptop. The announcement does not address Claude Code's place in the lineup, which was the exact distinction practitioners found confusing. Separately The Verge reported Claude Code relaunching Projects to run multiple cloud agents under shared memory, goals and an artifact library, so the surface consolidation and the multi-agent surface expansion are landing in the same week.
