GitHub's usage metrics API now reports which skills, MCP servers and custom agents developers actually use
A changelog entry dated 2026-09-17 adds `totals_by_skill`, `totals_by_custom_agent`, `totals_by_mcp`, `totals_by_slash_cmd` and `totals_by_plugin` (top five items with interaction counts) plus matching `distinct_*_use_count` fields to per-user, aggregate, 1-day and 28-day Copilot reports. Customer-defined names are hidden and grouped under "other" or "custom", and plugin counts are a subset of skill counts so they must not be summed. This is the first org-level telemetry on agent customization adoption, which is the number that will decide whether internal skill libraries get funded.
