TencentCloud's Octop Hit 4,329 Stars Selling a Self-Hosted Multi-User Agent Assistant That Lives in Feishu, Discord and WeCom Instead of Its Own Tab
Octop trended on GitHub on September 19, reportedly adding 571 stars in a day; the repo now reads 4,329 stars and 474 forks, MIT licensed, created July 8, 2026, as a single Python 3.12 FastAPI process serving a web dashboard, CLI, IM bridges and background automation. It speaks Agent Client Protocol, stores state in SQLite (Postgres optional) under ~/.octop/ with multi-user JWT auth and PII redaction, and bridges into Feishu, DingTalk, Discord, WeCom and QQ. The design bet against per-seat SaaS assistants is explicit: multi-user plus self-hosted plus PII redaction targets teams that will not hand a vendor their chat history and terminal.
