Pirate Face turns 669,000+ Hugging Face models into SHA-256-verified torrents, 537 HN points
pirateface.co launched a torrent index that mirrors open model weights as magnet links, listing 669k+ eligible Hugging Face models and restricting mirrors to Apache-2.0 and MIT weights plus one approved exception for Kimi-K3. Every file in a torrent carries its official Hugging Face SHA-256 fingerprint, so a copy pulled from any peer has to match the original byte for byte, and the torrent keeps resolving after Hugging Face stops serving the file. It took 537 points on Hacker News on 2026-09-20 and adds creator-claimed handles verified against the matching HF account to block impersonation.
