Amazon cuts off Meta's Muse agent twelve days after launch, citing unidentified agents and stored credentials

Starting the night of 20 September, Muse users hitting Amazon.com saw a popup reading "Continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon's Conditions of Use, to which our customers have agreed." GeekWire reports Amazon's three objections: Meta never disclosed that Muse would browse the store, the agent does not identify itself, and it appears to capture and store customer login credentials; Amazon says it asked Meta to exclude Amazon.com voluntarily first. Meta counters that Muse "has no visibility into people's passwords or payment methods" and that shared credentials "go into secure storage, so Muse can use them without seeing them." This is the first hard block of a major consumer shopping agent by a retailer holding roughly 40% of US e-commerce, and it sets the precedent that agent identification headers are a commercial requirement, not a nicety.
