macOS 27 Removes the Apple Intelligence Off Switch, and 22.28 GB of Models Come Back After Upgrade
Three separate HN threads on September 21-22 converge on the same complaint: Apple removed the Apple Intelligence disable toggle in macOS 27. David Bushell, who disabled it on macOS 15.3 in February 2025, found it re-enabled after upgrading on September 16, consuming 22.28 GB of storage with multiple unkillable Siri processes, and the only remaining control hidden under Screen Time restrictions. Apple's own support document on restricting Apple Intelligence hit 324 points and 200 comments, an Ask HN asking whether Siri can be disabled at all hit 146, and a Reddit workaround for avoiding the model download hit 230.
