DigitalOcean Managed Agents enters public preview with Firecracker sandboxes and a 16,000-tool gateway
DigitalOcean launched Managed Agents on 2026-09-22 with two parts. Harness Runtime runs sessions in Firecracker microVMs and bills per second of active CPU, with a 3.3 s first response and 305 ms resume. Action Gateway is one governed endpoint to 16,000+ tools across 500+ providers. It runs Claude Code, Codex CLI, OpenCode, Hermes, LangGraph or custom OCI images, and OpenHands, Qencode and Amplitude are named early adopters. DigitalOcean's example session costs about $0.06/hour against $0.126 fully provisioned, which makes hosted coding-agent sandboxes a commodity line item.
