GPT-6 Sol and Luna shipped in Codex 0.156.1 and pydantic-ai 2.48.0 on launch day
OpenAI launched GPT-6 Sol ($2/$10 per Mtok) and GPT-6 Luna ($0.10/$0.50) on 2026-09-22, about half the price of the GPT-5.6 versions, according to TechCrunch and OpenAI's announcement. Within hours, Codex hotfix rust-v0.156.1 (#47405) added both to the model picker, and its rate-limit prompt now recommends Luna. pydantic-ai 2.48.0 (#8635) added gpt-6-sol and gpt-6-luna in the same release that added claude-opus-5-5. Luna at $0.10 input is cheap enough to use as a routing or classification tier inside agent loops.
