Strands merges its harness into the main SDK and defaults to Opus 5 with high thinking
strands-agents/harness-sdk released python/v1.57.0 and typescript/v1.19.0 on 2026-09-22. The release folds the Strands harness into the SDK (#4447), sets Opus 5 with high thinking as the default (#4460), and adds an mcp_router tool and a handoff_to_user tool. It also adds snapshot session management for Graph and Swarm. The repo shows +101 stars today on GitHub Trending. If you have an existing Strands agent that doesn't pin a model, it will switch to Opus by default after upgrading, which raises the cost per run.
