IntelliJ IDEA 2026.1 Ships with Built-In AI Agent Support — Codex, Cursor, and ACP Registry
JetBrains released IntelliJ IDEA 2026.1 with native support for AI coding agents including OpenAI Codex, Cursor, and any ACP (Agent Communication Protocol)-compatible agent via a one-click ACP Registry. New features include database access for AI agents (letting Codex or Claude query data sources natively), git worktree support for parallel agent/human branches, and quota-free next-edit suggestions. JavaScript support is now free in the Community edition. The release signals that IDE-native agent orchestration is becoming table stakes for developer tools.
