Senators Warren and Hawley Demand Mandatory Energy Reporting From Data Centers — EIA Already Launched Voluntary Pilot
In a bipartisan letter, Senators Elizabeth Warren and Josh Hawley urged the EIA to establish mandatory annual energy reporting for data centers, including hourly and peak loads, rates paid, grid upgrade costs, and breakdowns between AI compute vs. general cloud services. The senators requested a response by April 9 — signaling this is moving from voluntary to mandatory faster than the industry expected.
