Anthropic's /buddy system, discovered in the leaked source code and rolled out April 1-7, is a terminal pet companion with 18 species (duck, dragon, axolotl, capybara, mushroom, ghost, etc.), 5 rarity tiers (common to 1% legendary), cosmetics like hats and shiny variants, and 5 stats: DEBUGGING, PATIENCE, CHAOS, WISDOM, SNARK. Each user's buddy is deterministically generated via a hash of their account ID, making it unique and persistent. Claude generates a custom name and personality description on first hatch.
