Folk Musician Targeted by AI Voice Cloning and Spotify Copyright Fraud
The Verge reports that North Carolina folk artist Murphy Campbell discovered AI-generated songs on her Spotify profile in January — her voice was cloned from public YouTube recordings using commercial voice-cloning tools and pushed to Spotify through unverified third-party distributors within 24-72 hours. She also faced copyright trolling on her public domain ballad performances. Spotify has begun testing Artist Profile Protection to let artists approve releases before they go live.
