Yann LeCun at Brown University: 'AI Sucks' — Calls Hundreds of Billions in LLM Investment 'Complete BS'
LeCun told a standing-room-only crowd at Brown's annual Lemley Lecture on April 1 that 'There's literally hundreds of billions invested in an industry that basically is counting on the fact that LLMs are going to reach human-level intelligence. It's complete BS.' He argued that agentic systems built on LLMs are fundamentally limited because 'almost none of those systems at the moment are capable of predicting the outcome of their actions.' His goal for AMI Labs (which raised $1.03B at $3.5B valuation): 'to become the main provider of intelligence systems' via world models trained on sensory data rather than text.
