Gartner predicts that despite 40% of enterprise apps featuring AI agents by end of 2026 (up from <5% in 2025), over 40% of agentic AI projects will be canceled by end of 2027 due to escalating costs, unclear business value, or inadequate risk controls. Consumption-based pricing grew revenue approximately 8 percentage points faster than seat-based, but SaaS revenue multiples fell from above 7x to below 5x in one year. The prediction suggests a major shakeout is coming — enterprises are adopting agents faster than they can measure ROI.
