Russia's GRU Hacks Thousands of Consumer Routers Across 120 Countries in Espionage Campaign 'FrostArmada'
Russia's military intelligence agency (GRU) compromised thousands of end-of-life MikroTik and TP-Link routers in homes and small offices across 120 countries as part of a cyber espionage campaign codenamed FrostArmada, according to Ars Technica. The campaign targets insecure routers to steal credentials and establish persistent access points. The breadth (120 countries) and targeting of consumer-grade equipment makes this one of the largest state-sponsored router compromise campaigns publicly disclosed.
