GitHub Copilot Coding Agent Ships Firewall, Custom Instructions, and Multi-Repo Support in April Update

GitHub published a comprehensive update on Copilot coding agent capabilities including a new agent firewall for controlling which actions agents can take, custom instruction support for per-repository agent behavior configuration, and multi-repo context awareness for cross-repository tasks. These features address the three biggest enterprise blockers for autonomous coding agents: security boundaries, project-specific conventions, and monorepo/polyrepo workflows. The firewall feature is particularly significant as the first major vendor implementation of runtime agent action restrictions in a coding tool.
