AI Alliance Launches 'Project Tapestry' for Federated Open AI Training — Yann LeCun Appointed Chief Science Advisor
The AI Alliance (200+ member orgs) announced Project Tapestry on April 7, a new open-source platform for distributed, globally federated training of frontier open models — allowing institutions to contribute to training while retaining data sovereignty and building derivative models aligned to their own priorities. Yann LeCun (Turing Award, AMI Labs chairman) was appointed Chief Science Advisor to guide the project from architecture to implementation. For builders, this represents a concrete infrastructure play for open AI alternatives to closed providers.
