Theater of Mind: Global Workspace Theory Cognitive Architecture for Autonomous LLM Agents

Paper proposes moving LLMs from reactive BIBO (Bounded-Input Bounded-Output) systems to agents with intrinsic temporal continuity, based on Global Workspace Theory from cognitive science. The architecture addresses the critical bottleneck that current multi-agent frameworks rely on static memory pools and passive message passing, which prevents genuine autonomous operation. Introduces an active cognitive broadcast mechanism that enables continuous agent awareness rather than prompt-triggered responses.
