Hardening x402: First Open-Source Middleware Prevents PII Leakage in AI Agent Payment Protocol

Stantchev presents presidio-hardened-x402, the first open-source middleware that intercepts x402 agent payment requests before transmission to detect and redact PII from resource URLs, descriptions, and reason strings. The x402 protocol embeds payment metadata in every HTTP request that is transmitted to payment servers and facilitator APIs without data processing agreements. As agentic payments move from demo to production, this closes a concrete privacy gap in the emerging agent commerce stack.
