GitHub reports that over 51% of all code committed to its platform in early 2026 was either generated or substantially assisted by AI tools — crossing the majority threshold for the first time. The 2025 Stack Overflow Developer Survey found 84% of developers actively use or plan to adopt AI coding tools. The AI coding tools market has exploded to an estimated $12.8B in 2026, up from $5.1B in 2024 — a 2.5x increase in two years.
