India Establishes AIGEG: Inter-Ministerial AI Governance Body with Explicit Labor Displacement Mandate
India constituted the AI Governance and Economic Group (AIGEG), an inter-ministerial body chaired by Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, with an explicit mandate to assess which job profiles AI will displace first, map geographic concentration of impact, and develop transition plans. Unlike typical AI committees, AIGEG's core group includes the Principal Scientific Adviser, Chief Economic Adviser, and NITI Aayog CEO alongside secretaries from MeitY, Telecom, Economic Affairs, and the National Security Council. This is the most labor-focused AI governance body any major economy has created.
