Claude Code Ships Vim Visual Mode, MCP Hooks for Tool Invocation, Theme System, and PreCompact Hook Control
Claude Code's April 2026 changelog includes: vim visual mode (v) and visual-line mode (V) with selection and operators; hooks can now match and filter MCP tool invocations via mcp__<server>__<tool> naming pattern; conditional hook filtering via the 'if' field with agent_id/agent_type context; a new theme system with named custom themes and plugin theme shipping; merged /cost and /stats into /usage; PreCompact hook support allowing hooks to block compaction; and DISABLE_UPDATES env var. Fixed: PreToolUse hook additionalContext being dropped on failure, permissions.deny not overriding hook permissionDecision.
