Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Bans AI-Generated Actors and Scripts from Oscar Eligibility
The Academy released new rules requiring performances be 'demonstrably performed by humans with their consent' and screenplays be 'human-authored' to qualify for Oscar consideration. The Academy reserves the right to request information about AI usage. Notably, AI tools in other aspects of filmmaking (VFX, editing, scoring) are neither advantaged nor disadvantaged. Rules follow the emergence of AI 'actress' Tilly Norwood and an in-production film using AI Val Kilmer.
