Claude Code Now Accounts for 4% of All Public GitHub Commits — 135,000 Per Day

A SemiAnalysis report found that Claude Code generates approximately 4% of all public GitHub commits, processing over 135,000 commits daily. At current growth rates, Claude Code could account for 20%+ of daily commits by end of 2026. Meanwhile, total agent-opened PRs surged from 4M in September 2025 to 17M in March 2026 (4x in 6 months). GitHub itself reports 41% of new code is AI-generated, while git metadata shows only 5% explicitly AI-authored — an 8x attribution gap.
