EU Council and Parliament Agree to Simplify AI Act — High-Risk Deadlines Pushed to 2027–2028

On May 7, the EU Council and Parliament reached a provisional agreement to streamline the AI Act as part of the Omnibus VII simplification package. Stand-alone high-risk AI system rules are delayed to December 2027; product-embedded high-risk rules to August 2028. New provisions ban AI-generated non-consensual sexual content and CSAM. The transparency deadline for AI-generated content provenance is tightened from 6 months to 3 months, now due December 2026.
