TechTimes argues the open-weight GLM-5.2 release undercuts the entire June 12 ban. If a comparable model is downloadable under MIT terms and benchmarks competitively on cybersecurity, restricting proprietary US models does little to limit comparable capability abroad. This is the structural weakness in weights-based policy that builders and policymakers now have to confront. You can restrict a company. You can't restrict a file that's already mirrored everywhere.
